Mountain Voices: Continuing the Conversation
In February we gathered at the University of Victoria’s McPherson Library to celebrate the launch of Mountain Voices: The Mountain Legacy Project and a Century of Change in Western Canada.
The evening brought together contributors, researchers, and members of the community for a conversation about mountains, memory, and the many ways people connect with these landscapes.
The book brings together repeat photographs from the Mountain Legacy Project alongside short reflections from a wide range of voices. Adventurers, researchers, artists and archivists each sharing their own perspective on mountain places and the transformative power of mountains and mountain photographs.
The conversation will continue on March 20 with a virtual roundtable hosted by NiCHE: Mountain Voices: Memory, Story, and Permanence. Timed with the World Day for Glaciers, the discussion will focus on the art, science, and history of capturing images and stories in mountain landscapes.
